Fashion Reimagined kick-starts Sustainable Fashion week (a UK-wide set of events) and is also part of our new Connections strand of the programme which is all about community and commonalities, reminding ourselves how we connect, inspire and grow by nurturing local roots with global ideas. We will be welcoming everyone (un-ticketed) from 3-5pm for a one-off event as we are joined by 36T and Thrift Avenue for some beautiful second-hand sustainable fashion shopping plus repair and mend workshops with the fabulous Spinning Weal.
In the evening the film is ticketed as usual and we are joined for a Q&A after the screening with founder of Sustainable Fashion Week and A Single Thread, Amelia Twine.
Fashion Reimagined has received high praise and follows the journey of Amy Powney, raised by activist parents, fashion designer Amy always felt uneasy about the devastating environmental impact of her industry, and decides to create a sustainable collection from field to finished garment. Over the following three years, her personal revolution becomes the precursor of a much bigger, societal change.
Amy Powney is one of the most clued up designers on the subject of sustainable fashion that has ever set foot in Vogue House. The creative director of Mother of Pearl has been on a mission to convert her brand into one that’s able to call itself ethical and sustainable – and, unlike the numerous labels who have recently jumped on the eco bandwagon, actually mean it.
